Black College Fair
In 1983, past Brooklyn Borough President Howard Golden set aside the last Saturday in the month of February as "The Brooklyn Alumnae Chapter - Historically Black College and University Day". We have continued in this tradition by hosting a Black College Fair annually and exposing thousands of NYC students to collegiate life. The college fair gives students and families in the community the opportunity to speak to representatives from dozens of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and get a glimpse of college life.
During the college fair, parents and students are able to speak with representatives about campus life, academic programs, financial aid, admissions requirements, application fee waivers, and scholarship awards, with some schools offering on-site admissions at the fair.
We also host a panel of HBCU graduates to share their experiences and offer advice. Additionally, we offer workshops for students and parents to educate them on financial aid, acquaint them with the admissions process and to prepare them for a successful college experience.
