The Art of Black Hair and Beauty

Join the Brooklyn Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for an inspiring evening in celebration of May Week, as we honor the theme: The Art of Black Hair and Beauty with a special film screening and RED Talks conversation featuring THE BLACK BEAUTY EFFECT on Wednesday, May 21 | 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

We are proud to welcome Emmy-nominated producer CJ Faison, founder of FaceForward Productions, for an engaging dialogue on his groundbreaking docuseries The Black Beauty Effect, featured on Netflix and Comcast. The evening will include a screening of Episode: The Crown Effect, a compelling exploration of the cultural significance, influence, and challenges surrounding Black hair.

The Black Beauty Effect exposes the realities of the multi-billion-dollar Black beauty industry—its origins, its global influence, and the urgent need for progress. For too long, mainstream beauty standards have failed to reflect the richness, creativity, and power of Black beauty. Although Black culture shapes trends worldwide, the innovators behind these movements are often overlooked.

This event is an opportunity to reclaim the narrative, uplift the voices shaping the industry, and engage in meaningful conversation around identity, representation, and legacy in beauty
