Social Action

In the heart of Brooklyn, a chapter of distinction stands as the proud home to two remarkable women who have left an indelible mark on history—Soror Shirley Chisholm and Congresswoman Yvette Clarke. The Brooklyn Alumnae Chapter, a beacon of strength and empowerment, carries the legacy of these trailblazing women whose contributions resonate far beyond their time.

Soror Shirley Chisholm: The Trailblazer

Brooklyn Alumnae Chapter proudly embraces its connection to Soror Shirley Chisholm, a true trailblazer and a beacon of inspiration. In 1972, Chisholm made history as the first woman to run for President of the United States, breaking barriers and challenging the status quo. Her boldness, resilience, and commitment to social justice paved the way for future generations of women in politics.

Chisholm's legacy is not only etched in the pages of history but is woven into the fabric of the Brooklyn Alumnae Chapter. As we celebrate her groundbreaking achievements, we draw strength from her courage, determination, and unwavering commitment to equality.

Congresswoman Yvette Clarke: A Leader in the Present

The chapter is also honored to call Congresswoman Yvette Clarke one of its own. As a representative for New York's 9th congressional district, Clarke continues the legacy of leadership and advocacy. With a deep commitment to her constituents and a focus on issues that matter, she stands as a powerful force in contemporary politics.

Clarke's dedication to public service aligns seamlessly with the values upheld by the Brooklyn Alumnae Chapter. Together, they champion inclusivity, education, and empowerment, striving to make a lasting impact on the community they serve.

A Continuing Journey of Empowerment

The Brooklyn Alumnae Chapter stands as a testament to the strength and resilience of women who have shaped history and continue to do so. As we reflect on the legacies of Soror Shirley Chisholm and Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, we are reminded that our journey is ongoing. The chapter remains dedicated to fostering a community of empowerment, education, and advocacy—a place where women continue to write their own stories of success.

Join us in celebrating the rich history and promising future of the Brooklyn Alumnae Chapter—a home to pioneers, leaders, and visionaries who inspire us all.
